Client with aggravated felony conviction avoided deportation

Permanent resident Client was convicted with aggravated felony and is therefore facing 10-year jail time.  Because of that, ICE placed a hold on him.  Client then face deportation upon his release from jail.  Client’s family came to us seeking resolution.  After reviewing the client’s background information, we found out that the Client is eligible to become a U.S. citizen as his parent became a U.S. citizen before his 18th birthday while he was a U.S. permanent resident.  We then immediately filed an Application for Certificate of Citizenship which was granted.  ICE then agreed to have the hold released.
